Special Notice: All photogrpahers in the PhotoArts Collector Program will now be getting $10.00 per image sold. This means that not only will you get your investment back, you stand to make about $200.00, plus all the attendant publicity and promotion!
• How do you get your work in front of gallery owners and collectors?
• How do you make the time to promote and market your work,
and still be able to create, create, create?
Welcome to PhotoArts Collector:
As publisher and/or managing editor of CameraArts for almost six years, I have come across a wide body of excellent work that has barely seen the light of day. On many occasions I have had the privilege of being a reviewer at a number of national photographic events and have often wondered why certain artists are not exhibited in galleries and at shows, exhibits, etc. This is where “PhotoArts Collector” comes in. It will serve as your conduit to collectors, galleries, publishers, designers, etc.
This new program will assist you in getting your name and your photography, black and white or color, “out there.” As you know, marketing your work is one of the most difficult and challenging aspects of your creative pursuit. To that end, I have partnered with Ken Lieberman Labs, a New York custom print lab, to produce open editions of your work that will enable people to begin to collect your photographs at a reasonable, “entry-level” price. All the prints in the PhotoArts Collector (PAC) program, no matter who the photographer is, will be priced the same, and all prints will be a similar size, which will enable us to keep the purchase price reasonable.
How do you participate?
It’s a two-part process. First, you will need to submit your work to the Red Dog Journal Artist’s Portfolio Group, a portfolio section on the site, www.reddogjournal.com. There is a review fee of $25. If your portfolio is accepted it will automatically be considered for inclusion into the PAC program. (To submit your work, simply send us a disk of 10-15 images to address below, with a check for $25. Each image should be 300dpi, 8x10-inches (approx.), jpeg. Please include a basic description of the work, along with ALL your contact information.) If your work is already in the Portfolio Group, you can skip this step.
Secondly, photographers will be selected from the Portfolio Group for the PAC program. There is a fee of $300 for each print selected for participation in the PAC program. This fee will go toward marketing, promotion, and printing of the work. The artist will receive five prints to do with as they please, but they must mark them as “Artist’s Proofs,” so as to not be confused with PAC non-editioned prints. The photographer will receive $10.00 for each print sold, to be paid as sales warrant.
How are my prints printed?
All images will be printed on 11x14 RC paper, with an image size of around 8x12, and a run of 50. All images selected for this program will carry a retail price of $55, including shipping in the U.S., only (international shipping will be priced accordingly). This is a low enough price to encourage people to purchase one (or more) of your prints and get your name and your artwork “into circulation.”
How will my work be marketed and promoted?
Rather than end up in a gallery or museum “slush” pile, your work will be promoted and marketed through a highly-targeted variety of channels, including, but not limited to, magazines, e-newsletters, blogs, forums, podcasts, etc. We will send informative material to galleries, publishers, museums, collectors, and the like. The primary method, however, will be through our “sister” sites and through Red Dog News, a bi-weekly e-newsletter that currently goes out to more than 8,500 readers.
