The Darlow Report

Hi folks! Is it August already? For this edition, I keep it simple and share a few great websites/ locations to explore. Enjoy! -- Quick Website Suggestion #1: The Annenberg Space for Photography and Current Show:
http://www.annenbergspaceforphotography.org - The Annenberg Space for Photography is a relatively new exhibition space that opened in Los Angeles on March 27, 2009. I haven't had an opportunity to visit (I'm on the East Coast), but I encourage anyone who is in the LA area, or who is planning to visit, to stop by. The inaugural show The current show, L8S ANG3LES: Perspectives of Eleven LA Photographers looked absolutely fantastic from the photos I saw, and you can learn more about it here: http://www.annenbergspaceforphotography.org/exhibitions/past-exhibitions.asp Here is an overview from the website describing the photographers whose work was shown: "Julius Shulman and Tim Street-Porter are famous for their focus on both modern and vernacular southern California architecture. Douglas Kirkland and Greg Gorman memorably portray the city's celebrities from the industries for which LA is best known, while Lauren Greenfield's photographs probe the lives of children who "grow up in the shadow of Hollywood." Carolyn Cole's visual reports from international war zones are made for The Los Angeles Times as are the works of Lawrence Ho, Kirk McKoy, and Genaro Molina. Catherine Opie's series "In and Around Home" merges personal and local issues with global perspectives. And John Baldessari adds dry wit to the practice of "nip and tuck" and to "painting" one's face in his most recent series." -------- Quick Website Suggestion #2: http://www.poyi.org/

Carrying over from the first website suggestion, the Pictures of the Year International website is the official site for the Pictures of the Year International competition. To see a number of the photos from the awards presentation and exhibition at the Annenberg Space for Photography, visit this page: http://www.poyi.org/blog/?cat=1 As noted on the website, "Pictures of the Year International unveiled the "Visions of Excellence" traveling exhibition June 11 - 13 in Charlottesville, Va. during the LOOK3: Festival of the Photograph- http://look3.org/ . And here's a hidden jewel on the site (The YourSpace exhibition). First, navigate to this page: http://look3.org/2009/06/22/yourspace-online-show/
But don't view the 188 photos in the small window. Click on the full screen icon. They did this the right way by uploading large-size images! -- That's all for now. If you'd like to share any thoughts about my thoughts, feel free to contact me through the contact form here:
