The Darlow Report

Greetings!
In this edition of RDJ, I share a Twitter application that can help you find a lot of great photo sites and tips, and help you find more "followers," I share some great photo websites, I link to two recent articles that I wrote for Photofocus.com, I mention an upcoming color management teleconference and Photoshop/printing workshop and talk about some new iPad cases that I helped develop. ----------- Quick Tip: Why Twellow.com is a very useful application for Twitter users
Over the last few years I've used a number of applications that help make Twitter easier to use. One major task every Twitter user faces is who to follow or not to follow. Basically, if someone decides to follow you, you can decide whether or not to follow them, which allows each of you to send direct messages through Twitter to each other. I recently found Twellow, which does exactly that, but much more. Basically, you register on the site and can choose from many categories to associate yourself with (there are hundreds, which you can find here: http://www.twellow.com/all_cats). People can then search at Twellow.com and see who the "big dogs" with the highest number of followers are in any category. For example, here is the page for Photography in the Arts: http://www.twellow.com/category_users/cat_id/2374 You can sort by those who have the most or least number of followers. More followers often means that the person or company shares a lot of good info, and I recommend clicking on the "username on Twitter" link to see their recent Tweets before you decide to follow them (you need to register with Twellow.com to do that, which is free). Twellow also allows you to add other social media links, as well as an extended bio. Another application that allows you to bulk follow and unfollow people in an efficient way is Twitter Karma (http://dossy.org/twitter/karma/) This is a great tutorial article on how to use Twitter Karma: http://dembot.com/post/66503885/twitter-karma Selected quote by Andrew Baron from the article: "Also, because you can sort your connections in order of most recent tweet activity, the people who have never updated or stopped using the system sink to the bottom and can be isolated for your actions." ------------ Quick link: Pictory Magazine

I recently came across Pictory Magazine and was absolutely amazed at how impressive the images and stories are. I recommend starting at the index page, which you can find here: http://www.pictorymag.com/archive/ Then pick a story, and find a comfortable chair! --------- Quick link: Iceland volcano pictures These photos are pretty amazing, and Boston.com's Big Picture section displays them in a very nice way with captions: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/04/more_from_eyjafjallajokull .html?camp=localsearch%3Aon%3Atwit%3Abigpic --------- Three recent articles on Photofocus.com

I recently wrote two articles for photofocus.com. The first is an expanded article on what to sign prints with (a shorter version appeared in a previous Red Dog Journal)
http://photofocus.com/2010/04/14/what-should-you-use-to- sign-photo-prints-and-books-with/
... another article is about motion photography, which you can find here: http://photofocus.com/2010/04/21/motion-study-how-to-capture-the- world-as-it-goes-by/#comments ... another article on the site covers how to sell images on the iPad: http://photofocus.com/2010/04/19/selling-images-on-the-ipad/
---------- New iPad Cases from Frame Destination Not long ago, I helped develop a protective bubble sleeve called GalleryPouch™. After the Apple iPad was released, I realized that the GalleryPouch™ Gold w/ Velcro® would make a great case for the iPad, so I asked the company who makes them to add some specific iPad cases to the line. They are also great for lenses, tripods and other items. You can find out all about the iPad cases here: http://www.GalleryPouch.com/ipad and for an overview of the GalleryPouch™ including a video of me talking about the product, visit the main page at http://www.gallerypouch.com ---------- Upcoming Color Management Teleconference
I'll be conducting a one hour Color Management Teleconference on April 27, 2010 at 7pm EST (4pm PST).
