The Darlow Report

Hi folks! First, I'd like to wish all the Red Dog News and Red Dog Journal readers a very happy holiday
season. For this installment, I share info about greeting card printing, recommend a website,
point you to a recent article on using outside printing companies, and include news about a
few upcoming workshops. _______ Printing Tip: How to Print Greeting Cards 'Tis the season to give (and hopefully receive) greeting cards, and I've found that by printing your
own cards using either inkjet or laser printers, you can produce something that may save you
some money, but more importantly, you will create something that your friends and loved ones
will cherish forever – I know that sounds like a Hallmark commercial, but it's true! Greeting cards are also an excellent product for photographers to sell. People love to give
custom-made cards, and I've seen them priced at $3-10 per card at flower shops, galleries,
and other locations. The folks at Red River Paper recently sent out an e-mail with greeting card tips, and you can
find very well-written step-by-step web tutorials for Photoshop, Photoshop Elements and other
programs on the following page: http://tinyurl.com/5qccr5
They also have video tutorials, which can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/69uzox Cost Per Card Estimate for Red River Papers: http://www.redrivercatalog.com/cardshop/help/costpercard.htm Overview of Red River Paper Cards: http://www.redrivercatalog.com/cardshop/index.htm The company also has a sample kit with each of their card papers for $7.99. You can find out
more here: http://www.redrivercatalog.com/cardshop/samples.htm I have used many inkjet- and laser-compatible cards over the years, and my favorite inkjet
compatible cards are from Red River Paper (www.redriverpaper.com) and Museo Fine Art
(www.museofineart.com). The Museo Artist cards are made from their fine-art papers, and are well worth a look. A direct link to Museo Artist Cards can be found here: http://www.museofineart.com/artistcards.aspx Both Museo and Red River also offer panoramic cards which are truly impressive (shown here are
some of the Red River panoramic cards). Though smaller than most greeting cards, an excellent card option that I've tested with color laser
printers (they are not nearly as good when using inkjet printers) are the Avery Embossed Note
Cards 3259, 4-1/4" x 5-1/2". These are especially good for thank you cards.

imagery, and the way in which they promote photography exhibitions for galleries, museums, etc.
To delve into the many captivating stories and historical images, visit the site at: www.ArtVisionExhibitions.com ------------------- Professional Photographer Online Article: How to Choose Outside Printing Companies I recently wrote an article for Professional Photographer magazine’s online exclusives section
that includes partially excerpted material from chapter 1 of my book, 301 Inkjet Tips and
Techniques. The article covers information about how find and how to get better results when
working with an outside printmaker. You can find the article here: http://tinyurl.com/6btqbk --------------------- Upcoming Color Management and Fine-Art Inkjet Printing Workshops I have two upcoming full-day inkjet printing workshops and a two-day portfolio workshop that still
